One of my absolute favorite pass times is sitting in my room with pro tools open and just mixing whatever multi-tracks that I can get my hands on. Some people have also personally requested for me to mix their songs that were recorded elsewhere, and I have mixed every song that I recorded at the school as well. Although my home studio doesn't have the best equipment or plugins, the results have always had a good review. I personally love to mix Blues Rock and Folk songs the most but I have mixed everything from jazz to heavy metal.
Some of my favorite moments at the New England Institute of Art took place inside one of the studios while I was recording my friend or my friend's band. Each new time that I have recorded someone I have had new experiences where I have had to troubleshoot why it wasn't working, and since I have limited time within the studio, solving those problems as quickly as possible is a must needed skill. So far I have personally recorded 3 different artists/bands by myself.
Personally my favorite part of audio engineering is sound for picture. I knew before coming to the New England Institute of Art that I would probably end up doing something in regards to film audio, but when I had to do it for the first time in my Digital Audio and Media class, I fell in love. Since then I have gone above and beyond the expectations required of me while doing the Sound for Picture assignments for Hard Disk Recording and the Sound For Picture class.
Cinematography is a beautiful art-form. Most people don't think into it a lot, they just think that you should point the camera in their general direction and you are all set to film a movie, but there is so much more to it then that. A good cinematographer can enhance the story that is seen in a film, but a great cinematographer can create a story within the types of shots he choses. It is more then just making sure the story is seen, it is capturing the moments and expressing them. True cinematography is poetry.
